In a surprising development, Anthony Ricco, one of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense attorneys, has filed a motion to withdraw from representing the music mogul in his upcoming trial. The trial, scheduled for May 2025, involves serious charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, which Combs has consistently denied.
Ricco’s motion, submitted on February 20, 2025, cites reasons protected by attorney-client privilege, stating, “Under no circumstances can I continue.” This unexpected move comes just three months before the trial is set to begin. While the withdrawal is pending judicial approval, Ricco indicated that his decision followed consultations with Combs’ lead counsel, Marc Agnifilo.
Combs’ legal challenges have been mounting since November 2023, when singer Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit accusing him of physical and sexual abuse. Although that case was swiftly settled, subsequent federal charges in September 2024 alleged that Combs used his enterprises for criminal activities, including sex trafficking and bribery. The indictment was expanded in January 2025 to encompass additional alleged victims.
Despite these setbacks, lead attorney Marc Agnifilo remains confident in their defense strategy. The legal team is now tasked with adjusting to Ricco’s departure as they prepare for the forthcoming trial.
